Shepherd Family Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of documents pertaining to the Shepherd family and extended relations. The first series contains genealogical queries submitted by Ina over several years, as well as personal correspondence. The second series contains genealogical charts and forms such as pedigree charts or family group records. Arranged alphabetically, the typed cards contain information about each individual in the charts and forms. Cards list Information such as birth, death and burial, and marriage. Arranged by location or by type of record, series 3 comprises documents pertaining to specific branches of the extended Shepherd family. Extracted records such as Census records, cemetery records, birth, death, or marriage information have been typed or handwritten in notebooks. Other records such as obituaries, newspaper articles, and military records have been photocopied. Several notebooks contain extracted genealogical information about the Shepherd and related families from local newspapers in Lee’s Summit and Pleasant Hill. Series 4 contains family photographs. Ina also kept her typed assignments from Maude E. Frank Secretarial School in Kansas City, Missouri where she attended in 1941.

Biographical / Historical
Ina Mary Shepherd was born in Lee’s Summit, Missouri in 1912. She married Henry John Droege in 1927 and had one child, Kenneth Warren, in 1929. Henry passed away in March of 1940. Ina married Frank McGrady in May of 1940. Ina was introduced to genealogy later in her life through correspondence with her friends and family, and spent her final years sending and receiving a great deal of genealogy queries. Frank and Mary passed away just over one year from each other, in April of 1980 and 1981, respectively.
