Eleanor Shane Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence and school memorabilia from Eleanor Shane’s early life. Cards and letters illustrate Eleanor’s social life while the school items showcase her education and activities as an elementary school student through college. In addition to the various school items, there are also two memory books in which Eleanor recorded aspects of her time as a student at Mt. Washington School.

Biographical / Historical
Eleanor Shane was born to Elmo and Nora Shane on September 3, 1911. She attended Mt. Washington School, Northeast Junior High School, Northeast High School, and Teachers College of Kansas City. Eleanor married Norval Ray Browning on May 29, 1933 in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. Together she and Norval had three children; two daughters, Beverly and Donna, and one son, David. Eleanor was active as a member of many Independence organizations; such as the Mt. Washington School PTA, Independence Music club, and many others. She passed away on September 7, 1986 and was buried in Independence at the Mount Washington Cemetery.
