This collection contains correspondence between Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. and Agatha Lorene Lentz Tinder. Most of the items within this collection are dated from July 1951 to June 1953 and are written by Guy Tinder during his military service. The envelopes precede the corresponding letters.

Biographical / Historical
Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. was born August 12, 1929 in Platte County, Missouri. His parents, Guy and Rosetta Tinder, were tobacco farmers in Platte County. Guy enlisted in the Army on July 25, 1951. His basic training took place at Camp Crowder, Missouri. He was then stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri before being stationed in Germany for the remainder of his military service. He was released from military duty on July 6, 1953. Guy married Agatha Lorene Lentz on November 3, 1951. After Tinder’s military service, he and his family moved to Leavenworth, Kansas. Tinder lived there until his death on February 14, 2005.
Agatha Lorene Lentz Tinder was born April 5, 1931 in Platte County, Missouri. Her father, James Lentz, was a farmer in Platte County. Agatha married Guy Tinder, Jr. on November 3, 1951. Their first child, Kenneth Adam Tinder, was born October 23, 1952. While Guy was deployed, Agatha worked as a glove turner at a factory in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Tinder family moved to Leavenworth after Guy was released from military duty.
